Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Two things I know: Journalist and Police Officer aren’t the most popular careers right now. But way back when my brothers and I were wee lads, we thought those jobs were pretty cool and they struck a chord with us. I went the journalist route, our middle brother went into banking (smart) and my oldest brother became a sheriff’s deputy. So I’m thanking he and others in the...

Where is my Facebook Like button?

Remember when Facebook would tinker and roll out new features whether you liked them or not? Well, it’s happening again and this time the question many will ask is where is my Facebook Like button? Facebook announced a few days ago that they’re changing Pages (not standard profiles if you have just a normal Facebook profile). If you don’t know the difference, you sign up for a...

Florida just hit a new record of COVID-19 cases

It’s amazing how much changes in about a year. Nearly a year ago when this pandemic began, we had about 15,000 cases of coronavirus here in Florida. I remember it well as everyone was extremely paranoid because they didn’t know what we were dealing with. I remember looking at every door handle with extreme focus and wondering, is it there? I’d finagle my arm around the handle...

Sad day for America

As I sit here in the studio watching national coverage of the chaos at the nation’s Capitol, I find it hard to put into words what I’m seeing. During big events, national news will go ‘wall to wall’ meaning they take over coverage and local affiliates like us take a back seat unless a piece of local coverage is important enough to take back the coverage. This is obviously...

Time to fire up the keyboard

I played piano when I was younger. I don’t know how, but I managed to stick with lessons for a few years. As I got older, I didn’t play as much, but I wish I had. Over the years, I would go through spurts of practicing and getting the chops back. My biggest strides came in college at the University of Colorado. We had an old baby grand piano in our building. Since I didn’t know...

Is the Florida coronavirus vaccine rollout a disaster?

Topping the news in Florida right now is the failure to get coronavirus vaccines into the arms our our citizens. It's an interesting blame game wrought with red tape. The losers are our 65-year-old and older population and front line workers. Suffice it to say, it appears the Florida coronavirus vaccine rollout is a disaster.

Great app for wine lovers

Have you ever wondered where the wine you're drinking comes from, why it tastes the way it does or what it truly costs? I discovered a great app for wine lovers and now I'm learning way more about wine than ever before. And I'm blown away at how much restaurants mark up their wines!

Christmas is officially over

The end of Christmas doesn't come until all the decorations are packed up and put away. For us, this requires a full day and several trips to the storage unit. But alas, it is over. We have succeeded in closing out the season yet again - and I am relieved.

Happy New Year, I have few plans

Well, would you look at that. We made it. Happy New Year. Not that we’re even close to out of the woods yet with coronavirus, but at least there are some signs of promise on the horizon. I worked this week (a lot) since everyone else is off and enjoying the last of their holiday time off. I was lucky to have Christmas off. That’s the thing about TV News – you’re always...

Grateful for 2020

Yeah, it felt weird to type that title. While 2020 will be chalked up on many lists as the worst on record, I can’t say it was that way for our family. We were lucky and extremely grateful for 2020. Here is a quick look back at some of the bright spots in such a dark year. Hello, Brookie! We welcomed Brooklyn Hart Benson into the world and a very strange operating room rife with PPE, Covid...
